Dr. Forkner is the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Department of Arizona Adjutant and CEO, as well as Past Commander and a Chapter Service Officer at East Valley Chapter 8, assisting his fellow veterans and their families in receiving the benefits and assistance they have earned through their service. He is Secretary on the Board of Directors of Unified Arizona Veterans, a coalition of over 50 Veteran Service Organizations and veteran-focused nonprofits in Arizona. He is Chair of the Mesa Veterans Program for the Mesa Chamber of Commerce, a trained Military/Veteran Resource Navigator, and a Veteran-Ready Healthcare Provider.

Dr. Forkner is on the Board of Directors of Resurrection Street Ministry, a Champion and Trainer for Dementia Friendly Mesa, Field Advocate for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and an Ambassador for Objective Zero to help prevent military, veteran, and family member suicides.

Dr. Forkner has participated in research over most of the last four decades, providing important studies on education, national strategy, military operations, international security, business, and societal issues. His current research focuses on veterans’ mental health, specifically the prevalence of moral injury among veterans diagnosed with PTSD.
