I had the opportunity to serve as my Company's First Sergeant (acting) for about one and half years as an E7. During that time, I had the normal responsibilities of the 1SG but I had the opportunity to be a 1SG for a Reserve Medical Aviation Company with 12 Medevac Blackhawks. Assisting the others on the Command Staff with managing the extra training days available to ensure all flight personnel were completing the required number of flight hours per year, rating senior staff members, competing and attending the yearly training briefs (YTB) at the BDE level. Prior to the Aviation assignment, I managed medics on two deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan with MP Companies. The most challenging assignment though was to the Army Reserves Military Police Command serving as the senior medic with in the Command. The challenge was ensure Soldiers, at the lowest level, were receiving the proper medical preparedness and the each medic was receiving the proper education for recertification as an E
